Our Story
Howami began as an offline movement, working directly with families and schools to make menstrual cycle and emotional awareness practical, shame-free, and usable in everyday life.
Co-created by Nikki Berridge and Kate Penning in 2020, the work quickly revealed a common gap: teens often experience intense hormonal and emotional changes before they have the words for them. Even the most caring adults can struggle to understand or respond, often leading to a cycle of misunderstanding, conflict and disconnection.
Inspired by these shared stories and lived experiences, Howami Limited was born with a clear mission: to advance menstrual health awareness and emotional and mental wellbeing for young people, while providing the essential tools and support for the adults who care for them.
Through the Million Moons Initiative, the Howami Youth First app and Adult Supporter Portal, the development of community outreach programmes and workshops, we hope to contribute to a change that menstruators have long been waiting for: a world where menstrual health is honoured as a vital sign of wellbeing, understood with compassion, and integrated seamlessly into the rhythm of our daily lives.
